Spurs delay Gareth Bale decision

Gareth Bale faces a fight to be fully fit for Tottenham’s match with Manchester City but Aaron Lennon is expected to return for Sunday’s game at White Hart Lane.

It is believed Bale is still struggling to recover completely from the ankle injury he sustained against Basle earlier this month, which ruled him out of the Premier League fixture against Everton and the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against the Swiss club.

Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas had identified the City match as Bale’s comeback game. There is still some optimism at the club that the Welshman can return but a final decision will not be taken until the end of the week. If Bale did start, it is doubtful that he would be operating at full capacity, a little more than two weeks after he damaged the ankle.

For Lennon, however, the outlook appears brighter. The winger sustained a damaged knee against Basle but it is thought the 10-day break has given the 26-year-old sufficient time to recuperate.
