Sky Sports News has been widely criticised for their coverage of Bury and Bolton’s attempts to save themselves from expulsion from the Football League.

Bury are on the brink after C&N Sporting Risk announced on Tuesday afternoon they are unable to proceed with their proposed takeover that could have saved them from liquidation.

The Shakers had been given until 5pm BST on Tuesday to complete the deal.

Bolton fans meanwhile also face an anxious wait to discover their club’s fate.

The Wanderers were also set a 5pm deadline with the club issuing a statement shortly after that time stating: “Discussions are ongoing with all parties and a further statement will be issued later this evening."

Football fans have aired their frustration with Sky Sports’ coverage of a pivotal day for both football clubs, with some accusing the broadcaster of treating it ‘like transfer deadline day.’

Sky Sports incorporated a clock counting down to 5pm as part of their coverage, similar to the one used in their coverage of transfer deadline day.

Twitter users described the move as ‘disgraceful’, ‘distasteful’ and a ‘new low’ for the channel, with presenter Jim White also targeted for criticism.
