Ricky Holmes’ hat-trick was not enough for Charlton Athletic as Karl Robinson’s side left the New Meadow on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller.

The Addicks lead twice in the game, and went in at the interval with a 2-1 advantage before Tyler Roberts pulled the hosts level with 52 minutes on the clock.

Shrewsbury then went ahead a minute later through Shaun Walley, before Holmes completed his hat-trick with 20 minutes left of normal time.

But it would be the hosts who would land the final, punishing blow.

Louis Dodds, who had fired home Shrewsbury’s equaliser in the first half, popped up to score the seventh goal of the match.

Charlton pushed for an equaliser late on, but failed to make that all-important breakthrough as the hosts went close to a fifth via a deflected effort from Freddie Ladapo.

Defeat leaves Robinson’s side without a win in their last seven matches.
