Scott Hogan says Aston Villa was the only club in the Championship he would have left Brentford for.

Hogan wanted a move to the Premier League last month but West Ham had three bids rejected.

Villa signed Hogan on deadline day for a fee that could reach £12million and the striker said: “Aston Villa is the only Championship club I would have left Brentford for.

This is not a Championship club. We are there in the Championship, you can’t hide that. But it’s the job of all the boys in the changing room, including myself, to get back up there. We all want to get there.

“I just feel Scott Hogan and Aston Villa is the perfect match. The transfer moved quickly but I have no problem with that because I am now at one of the biggest clubs in the land.”

Brentford beat Villa 3-0 on the same day they sold Hogan.

The Bees face Championship leaders Brighton at Griffin Park on Sunday.
