Santi Cazorla has sent a heartfelt message to Arsenal fans after it was announced he would be leaving the club having come to the end of his contract.

As Standard Sport revealed on Sunday, the Gunners decided against a new deal for the Spaniard, after injuries threatened to end his career, let alone his time at the club.

The 33-year-old finally returned to first team training towards the end of the season, having undergone ten surgeries and a skin graft, last appearing for the club in October 2016.

In a video published on the club site, Cazorla addressed the fans following the announcement.

“Hello to the Arsenal fans everywhere, I’m very sad to be leaving after so many great times,” he said.

“I have loved my time with the club and I will always remember the special moments we have had together.

“The FA Cup win in 2014 is something we will never forget. It was a great moment for me and the club.

“I want to say thank you very much because you always give me a special support.

“I am very proud to be part of this club’s history and I want to wish you all the best. And thank you very much again."
