Charlton are interested in signing former Leyton Orient midfielder Stephen Dawson from Scunthorpe.

Dawson played successfully for Addicks boss Russell Slade at Orient and the pair may be reunited.

The 30-year-old has substantial Football League experience and Slade believes he is the kind of player who can help Charlton to promotion.

Slade was appointed to stabilise the Addicks after they were relegated to League One following a disastrous season in the Championship.

Slade expects at least four more arrivals this summer and admits additional signings are key if Charlton are to challenge for promotion.

“Top-six is the minimum requirement,” he told Standard Sport. “Are we there yet? No. We are short on the recruitment side.

"In an ideal world you want players in at the start of the season, but after relegation there was always going to be a transitional period.

“Whether you like it as a fan or a manager, it is what it is. It is a period we need to get through and come out of the other side. We are up for the fight.”
