Royal Bafokeng confirmed as England World Cup base

11 April 2012

FIFA today confirmed England will use Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus as their training base for the World Cup even though it is not yet finished.

On a visit to the complex in Rustenburg this week, Fabio Capello and Football Association officials saw a halfbuilt hotel.

Work was supposed to be completed last November but Capello and the FA have agreed to use the complex after being assured it will be ready for England.

"I'm really happy," said manager Capello. "We checked everything and it improved a lot from the last time we stayed here.

"The pitches are good and will be better for June. The hotel is really, really nice and the medical centre will be ready in two months. We visited four different places and this was the best."

Hosts South Africa have also had problems with their base. A lack of progress at Esselen Park in Johannesburg has forced them to move their training camp 25 miles to Sandown High School.
