QPR are unlikely to offer a contract to former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.

Reports in recent days have claimed that free agent Bendtner could be set for a return to the English game two years after Arsene Wenger lost faith with the striker, releasing him after nine years with Arsenal.

However Standard Sport understands that there has been no formal contact between the club and the Danish international and, whilst a change of approach cannot be entirely ruled out before the transfer window closes on August 31, Bendtner is not at the top of the Rs’ wishlist.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side remain in the market for another striker but it appears unlikely they will turn to Bendtner.

Rangers have made a broadly pleasing start to the new season under Hasselbaink and find themselves in sixth place in the Championship table and in the third round of the EFL Cup despite their lack of striking power.

Bendtner, 28, has been without a club since his contract at Wolfsburg was cancelled with immediate effect in April, over a year before it was due to expire.

Over seven seasons in the English game Bendtner did briefly shine, scoring 11 goals on loan in the Championship with Birmingham in the 2006-07 season. Over 171 appearances for Arsenal he managed 47 goals.
