Arsenal recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday but Tony Cascarino believes the defeat was much of Jose Mourinho’s making.

It was the first time in Premier League history that Arsene Wenger had defeated the Portuguese, at the thirteenth attempt.

Two second half goals in the space of three minutes from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck did the damage at the Emirates, but former the former Chelsea striker believes it’s Mourinho’s negative tactics that led to the result.

“Jose Mourinho isn’t doing enough with this Manchester United team,” wrote Cascarino in his column for the Times.

“We know he can be conservative away from home but he’s showing the opposition too much respect by sitting deep and not attacking away from Old Trafford. There’s almost a sense of fear about the players and that isn’t what United fans expect.

“They should be causing opponents problems no matter who they are playing – that’s how you restore that aura around Manchester United.

“At the minute there is little for their rivals to worry about.”
