Dejan Lovren is edging towards a Liverpool exit, with talks over a £15million move to AS Roma ongoing.

The Croatian is keen on an Anfield departure this summer having fallen down the pecking order at centre-back, and has not travelled with the squad for Wednesday's Uefa Super Cup clash with Chelsea .

The first two games of the season have seen Joe Gomez selected as Jurgen Klopp’s preferred partner for Virgil van Dijk.

Joel Matip is also ahead of Lovren thanks to his contributions to last season’s Champions League success.

Consequently, the Reds are willing to accept bids worth £15m for the defender, who has attracted interest from Italy.

AC Milan were strongly linked with a move early in the window, but it is Roma who have edged ahead in talks.

Klopp’s faith in both midfielder Fabinho’s capabilities at centre-half and youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever have played a significant role in his decision to allow Lovren to leave.
