Neil Warnock: Nottingham Forest job would suit Gianfranco Zola

Neil Warnock has tipped former West Ham and Watford boss Gianfranco Zola to take charge at Nottingham Forest.

Warnock rejected the opportunity to replace Billy Davies after meeting the club’s owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi.

The 65-year-old was put off by the level of influence Hasawi wants over the team but believes it is a position Zola is more suited to, having worked in similar conditions during his 15 months at Watford before resigning in October.

Warnock said: “I’m sure someone like Zola, who will come in and just coach the team, will end up there. When you’ve got experience you have to do it how you do it and I didn’t see that there.

“That’s why I think Zola will probably be the favourite because at Watford he was given players and it worked for a while.”

Stuart Pearce has also been linked with the job. The former Forest and England defender is interested but said he would want assurances over the level of control. The former England Under-21 coach told talkSPORT: “There are some really good jobs that come up every now and again and Nottingham Forest outside the Premier League is an outstanding job for whatever manager wants it.

“I’d have thought there are certain things a manager wouldn’t accept. Things like picking the team and players coming through the door who are signed by somebody else that you don’t want.”

Forest’s Academy manager Gary Brazil will be in charge of their game against Charlton tonight.
