Millwall 0 Scunthorpe 0: Neil Harris optimistic Lions will reach League One Play-Off Final despite draw at The Den

Millwall manager Neil Harris offered an optimistic assessment of his side’s ability to book their place in the League One Play-Off Final despite a disappointing 0-0 draw with Scunthorpe at The Den.

The Lions dominated possession in an intriguing encounter but were rarely able to prise open a disciplined Scunthorpe backline as the Iron claimed a clean sheet to take back to Glanford Park for Sunday’s semi-final second leg.

Lee Gregory spurned Millwall’s best chance just before the half hour mark, firing a low effort at visiting goalkeeper Joe Anyon when through on goal.

While their dominant display was not rewarded on the scoresheet, Harris is convinced that a repeat performance can take his side back to Wembley, where they lost to Barnsley in last season’s Play-Off Final.

"We have to make sure we’re every bit as secure and resilient as we were tonight," he said. "We’ll make chances. The onus is on Scunthorpe in to come and attack against us.

"We’re capable of scoring goals away from home.

"If we replicate tonight’s defensive show, if we play with that intensity and aggression and add just that little bit more quality I’d certainly imagine we’ll get a little more luck than we did in their penalty area on Sunday."

Millwall will have few better chances than Gregory’s spurned effort, the sort a striker with 17 goals in 37 league appearances this season will thrive upon.

"It’ll feel like a missed opportunity for Lee because he thrives on scoring goals," Harris admitted.

"There’s four quarters of football for me in the two ties and we’ve not been beaten in the first two.

"Yes we’d have loved to have had a lead but we as a team and a club have been at our best when we’re the underdogs."
