Mathieu Debuchy told he will not force through a transfer to Newcastle

Lille full-back Mathieu Debuchy is powerless to force through a dream move to Newcastle United, says coach Rudi Garcia, as the club’s decision is final.

The Magpies have been locked in negotiations with the French club and repeatedly had offers rejected and Debuchy, keen to follow in the footsteps of international team-mate Yohan Cabaye, has become increasingly frustrated with what he perceives as the club blocking his career ambitions.

In the face of his complaints, LOSC manager Rudi Garcia says that there is nothing the 28-year-old can do so long as Newcastle do not meet the club’s asking price.

In an interview with French publication Nord Éclair, Garcia said: "He doesn't really have the choice. The club has made a decision and he has to deal with it."

Garcia also said he had no worries about Debuchy underperforming if he was forced to stay, since it would jeopardise his place in the French national side: "He also knows he has to be good in the game for his future in the French team. I have no worries about him."
