Manchester United have been encouraged to go back in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka - despite having an initial bid rejected by Crystal Palace.

Man Utd made their first move for the right back at the start of the month - tabling an offer believed to be in the region of £35million.

Although it was immediately rejected, Old Trafford’s hierarchy were left believing an increased bid could land them one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top targets this summer.

But it remains to be seen how high United are prepared to go after growing frustrated by what they believe to be unrealistic premiums on the domestic players on Solskjaer’s wanted list.

They have agreed a deal in principle for Swansea winger Daniel James that will rise to around £22m if all add-ons are met - but that will be more than double their initial bid of £10m.

It’s believed Palace are holding out for around £60m for Wan Bissaka - but will hope to keep the price down to £50m.

While the 21-year-old is Solskjaer’s first choice right back, United are already considering cheaper alternatives - including Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier.

But Solskjær will be reluctant to give up on Wan-Bissaka, having already accepted top target Jadon Sancho is likely to be out of reach for at least another 12 months.

He has told executive vice chairman Ed Woodward United need to alter their transfer strategy and build for the long term.

James - also 21 - and Wan-Bissaka represent that shift in approach, along with Newcastle starlet Sean Longstaff.

United are expected to officially complete the signing of James this week - and Solskjær is eager step up his overhaul as he aims to bring in five new players before the start of the season.

He wants the majority of his business to be completed by time United head out to Australia for the start of their summer tour at the start of next month.
