Luke Shaw has become the fourth player to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s England squad because of injury.

The Manchester United defender will join Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Manchester City pair Fabian Delph and John Stones in missing the opening Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montengero.

So far only two replacements have been called up, with in-form Southampton man James Ward-Prowse returning to the side for the first time since 2017, and Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi - who had been set to make his U21 debut - also joining the senior team.

Despite Shaw’s absence, England still look well covered at left-back with Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Leicester’s Ben Chilwell also in the group.

Shaw made his first England appearance in over a year in the Nations League defeat to Spain at Wembley, setting up Marcus Rashford’s goal, but was carried off shortly after half-time with a head injury.
