Manchester City have broken their own record for the biggest win in an EFL Cup semi-final after beating League One Burton Albion 10-0 across two legs.

Having dispatched Burton 9-0 in the first leg at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola's men knew that victory of any kind in the second leg at the Pirelli Stadium would secure a double figure winning margin.

Sergio Aguero duly obliged, with his strike in the first half of a fairly subdued second leg enough to secure a 1-0 victory.

City, who racked up nine of the goals at the Etihad in the first leg, set the previous record five years ago when they beat West Ham 9-0 over two legs, scoring six at home and three in east London, to reach the final against Sunderland, who they beat 3-1.

However, Burton avoided the indignation of equalling the record for the biggest defeat at any stage of the competition, which stands at 11 goals.

Guardiola’s side, who broke the record for goals scored in a Premier League season last time out and have already racked up over 100 so far this campaign, will face either Tottenham or Chelsea in February’s final. Spurs go to Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 lead on Thursday night thanks to Harry Kane’s first leg penalty.
