Manchester United great Paul Scholes has urged the club to focus on a deal for "sensational" Erling Haaland.

Scholes believes Haaland has the potential to rival both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and has questioned United's decision to chase after Jadon Sancho instead during the summer window.

Haaland has scored an incredible 17 goals for Borussia Dortmund in 14 league matches since arriving in January from Red Bull Salzburg.

United had been in for the Norway international before he opted for Dortmund, and Scholes believes they should shift their focus back to the 20-year-old when the next transfer window rolls around.

"I think Haaland is sensational," Scholes told Stadium Astro.

"I think he’ll be up there with your Ronaldo’s and Messi’s levels possibly from what I’ve seen so far.

"That’s why I just never felt Sancho was the right type of player because we’ve got three of that type of player already.

"To spend £100m or whatever, I didn’t think it was right. I wasn’t that disappointed.

"Look, he’s a brilliant player and he’ll probably improve any team but I just didn’t think there was the need for him this year.
