Manchester City's Sergio Aguero could miss Tottenham Hotspur clash on Sunday

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is a major injury doubt for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

The £38million Argentina international started last night’s 1-0 win against Wigan but was replaced at half-time to protect a hamstring problem and could miss City’s trip to north London.

First-team coach David Platt said: “He has got a problem but it was a slight problem. It was more of a precaution than anything else. He felt his hamstring tighten up.

“Just the sheer proximity of the game on Sunday would say he is a doubt.”

Carlos Tevez scored a late winner for City in what was a dress rehearsal of next month’s FA Cup Final to close the gap on League leaders Manchester United to 13 points and leave Wigan in relegation trouble.

Roberto Martinez’s side are three points adrift of safety with a game in hand but City boss Roberto Mancini has backed Wigan to stay up.

The Italian said: “They don’t deserve to be relegated and Martinez is a good manager. His team played very well.

“Wigan played better than us for 60 minutes. In the last 25 minutes, we played better, we had three or four chances to score but they probably didn’t deserve to lose.”

Spurs have their own injury problems. Star man Gareth Bale is a major doubt for the match while Younes Kaboul and Sandro are long-term absentees, although Aaron Lennon could return.
