Jose Mourinho has his critics, but the Manchester United manager knows one thing every good team needs is an enemy.

Whether at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid or Old Trafford, the Portuguese coach has never found it difficult to build a siege mentality out of perceived slights - even taking on United's fans this season for a lack of support of Romelu Lukaku.

However, Mourinho took things to a new level after United's 2-0 victory over Everton as Goodison Park as he attacked big names at both United and rivals Manchester City.

The former Chelsea boss took issue with Paul Scholes' criticism of Paul Pogba and claimed that the United legend is jealous of the French midfielder's wages, before taking time to aim a thinly-veiled dig at one of City's most high-profile supporters - Noel Gallagher.

Gallagher, of Oasis fame, was a media pundit at last month's Manchester derby - which City won 2-1 - and has spoken to various outlets in recent weeks.

Not to be outdone, Mourinho said after the win at Goodison: "The performance was really good, so maybe I'm lucky this time and the kings of the rock and roll that said I was underperforming last match maybe will say this time I performed."

Following the Manchester derby win, Gallagher told Sky Sports: "It's payback time... respect to the United fans who clapped Pep Guardiola off - they know they've seen something special today."

And of Mourinho's post-match comments about the nature of City's win, he said: "The hypocrisy of the man is staggering."
