Liverpool still chasing Arsenal target Thomas Lemar & Virgil van Dijk after signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool were set for a deadline day spending spree with Jurgen Klopp hoping to pull off deals for Thomas Lemar and Virgil van Dijk to add to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Klopp is understood to be willing to pay more than £70million for Monaco midfielder Lemar and still wants to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Monaco and Southampton have said they do not want to sell but Klopp hopes to secure deals for both players as Oxlade-Chamberlain finalised his £40m move from Arsenal.

Arsenal had been interested in Lemar but Arsene Wenger last week said a deal for the 21-year-old was “dead” because Monaco have already sold Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer and are set to lose Kylian Mbappe.

Liverpool are said to have already had several approaches for Lemar rejected but are expected to pursue a deal until the deadline. Philippe Coutinho is set to leave Anfield for Barcelona.

Elsewhere, Swansea City are poised to pull off the surprise signing of Renato Sanches from Bayern Munich.

Sanches cost Bayern around £32m a year ago after helping Portugal win Euro 2016 and is set to move to Swansea on loan for the season.

Swansea head coach Paul Clement used his close relationship with to Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti to sign the player for a fee of about £3.5m.

Burnley are set to sign striker Nahki Wells from Huddersfield Town for about £5m.
