Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard condemns 'out of order' attack on Manchester City bus

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has branded the attack on Manchester City's bus as "out of order".

The visitors' team bus was pelted by bottles, fireworks and other paraphernalia as the City squad arrived for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie.

Liverpool issued a statement before the game apologising to City and confirming an investigation will be launched to find those responsible.

Pep Guardiola said, referencing the bombing of Borussia Dortmund's team bus 12 months ago, of the incident: "We didn't expect that, after what happened in Dortmund last season."

Gerrard, who is the club's Under-18s coach, said as a pundit on BT Sport: "There’s no need for it. Scenes like this sour the night for the club.

"It is nothing that the club want to be associated with.

"We want a great atmosphere and we want to make it hostile for the opposition but certain individuals have overstepped the line and it's bang out of order."

Liverpool won the first leg in emphatic style, scoring three first-half goals and stunting an out-of-sorts City team to hold a commanding 3-0 advantage ahead of Tuesday's second leg.
