Liverpool join Arsenal in race for Bordeaux star Malcom, according to French side's manager

Bordeaux manager Jocelyn Gourvennec has claimed that Liverpool could be ready to enter the race for Arsenal target Malcom.

Les Girondins’ president Stephane Martin insisted he did not want to sell the Brazilian, 20, midway through the season but representatives of Malcom have already travelled to London as he moves closer to an exit.

The Gunners would have to part with up to £45million to get their man but interest from a Premier League rival would help Bordeaux drive their price up.

“If Liverpool want you to work for them tomorrow, you’d go,” he told a press conference.

“I’m a coach, I’d like to be able to count on Malcom, Malcom has to help us.”

Gourvennec admitted that Malcom was considering his next step but as yet Bordeaux are not paying the price for the speculation surrounding their star player.

Malcom showed no signs of being unsettled by Arsenal interest in Friday’s 1-0 win at Troyes, where he provided a brilliant assist to Gaetan Laborde’s winner.

“I can’t deny that he’s being followed by a lot of people,” Gourvennec added. “With Malcom, I go from day-to-day.

“He’s committed. He’s a bit like he was in the summer - I wouldn’t say he has been disturbed by it, that’s a bit strong, he’s not disturbed, but he is asking questions.

“He’s asking himself what’s the best thing for him, for his future. That’s logical. If he’s asking questions and he still manages to make assists or score goals, it’ll be fine.”
