Lionel Messi last night led the Argentina team in a media boycott following allegations of drug use against Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Messi and the 23-man squad turned up to a press conference after their 3-0 win over Colombia to back PSG forward Lavezzi.

Messi announced their press boycott and the players then left without answering any questions.

A radio station in Argentina has claimed Lavezzi smoked marijuana while on international duty, something he denies. Argentina have also been heavily criticised after their 3-0 defeat by Brazil last week.

Messi said: “We have received many accusations, a lack of respect and we never said anything. Getting into one’s personal life is very grave.”

The Barcelona forward scored a superb free-kick and set up the other two goals to give Argentina their first win in four World Cup qualifiers.
