Leyton Orient squad fly to Spain to celebrate Football League return ahead of Wembley trip

Leyton Orient players are flying to Spain this week to celebrate winning the National League title before next month’s FA Trophy Final at Wembley.

Orient secured promotion back to the Football League following a 0-0 draw at home against Braintree Town on Saturday.

There were jubilant celebrations on the pitch at Brisbane Road after some turbulent years during which the club faced the threat of extinction under former owner Francesco Becchetti.

Orient manager Justin Edinburgh has given the squad the week off and the players are heading to Spain for four days before reporting back for training next week.

The O’s will then refocus on securing the non-League Double when they play AFC Fylde in in the FA Trophy Final on May 19.

Orient are back in the Football League two years after they were relegated and taken over by a consortium who have turned the club around following three difficult years under Becchetti.

Edinburgh, who was appointed in 2017, is now setting his sights on back-to-back promotions next season. He said: “This needs to be just the start. We cannot stand still. I realised what it means to the fans after the final whistle and seeing the jubilation on so many people’s faces.

“We are not going to step back or stay where we are, we want to try and continue to move forward.”
