England have reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time in 28 years.

Victory over Sweden in Samara sealed their place in their final four where they will face Croatia in Moscow on Wednesday night.

Goals from Harry Maguire and Dele Alli secured a 2-0 win in Samara.

Not since Italia 90 have England reached this stage of the competition, where they would lose on penalties to eventual winners West Germany.

It is the first time England have reached a major semi-final of any competition since 1996 – when Gareth Southgate missed that penalty against Germany at Wembley at Euro 96.

England have taken full advantage of the favourable knockout draw presented to them after finishing second in their group.

It leaves the Three Lions just one win away from the final, which will be held at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 15, where they would face one of France or Belgium – who topped Group G ahead of England.
