Ecuador's coach may have been forced to take training on a mobility scooter but it did not stop him from inspiring his side to a 2-0 victory against Argentina in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Gustavo Quinteros tore his Achilles tendon playing football with friends in September and is expected to be unable to walk for more than a month while he recovers.

However, with crucial fixtures looming large the 50-year-old ensured that he remained firmly in the first-team fold by conducting training on a mode of transport more commonly associated with pensioners.

Quinteros carried his clipboard in the trolley's basket and parked up on the side of the training pitch before barking orders to his players like normal.

He even attended the game itself on board his new set of wheels and his side's preparations were certainly not hindered by his unusual situation as late goals from Frickson Erazo and Felipe Caicedo helped Ecuador shock Argentina in Buenos Aires two days ago.

Ecuador face Bolivia in their second World Cup qualifier on Tuesday and Quinteros will hope that their early momentum will continue to trundle along.
