Tottenham's striking sensation Harry Kane has praised manager Mauricio Pochettino for helping to develop him into a better player.

Kane, 21, enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign for Spurs last season after scoring 21 Premier League goals - five behind top scorer Sergio Aguero - and being named the PFA Young Player of the Year.

The striker had initially been presented with the chance to demonstrate his goal-scoring prowess when Pochettino fielded him in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup, where he flourished.

After then being handed his first Premier League start in November, Kane cemented his place in Tottenham's starting team, which the England forward has credited to Pochettino's faith in his abilities.

"The manager has been great,” Kane, who is currently with England at the European Under-21 Championships, told Goal.

"He’s worked a lot on me physically and individually. He’s done a lot of extra sessions to help me with my movement and my finishing and things like that.

"We will continue to do that so I can hopefully get better."

He added: "I still do work on my finishing after training. I do it every day. I think it’s important to keep practicing and improve.

"I’ve had that attitude since a young age - to work as hard as I can. I will always continue to do that.

"The manager has done a great job this year. He’s used a lot of young players and that’s a great starting point. Everyone is fully behind the coach and he’s behind the players."

Kane started England's first match at the Euro U-21 Championships against Portugual on Thursday, which Gareth Southgate's side lost 1-0.

However, Kane has insisted England can still progress to the semi-finals of the tournament by remaining calm despite the withdrawal of top scorer Saido Berahino through injury.

"We know winning two games will get you out of the group and that's still the case," he said.

"It's not about panicking and changing our game plan, it is still the same. We've got to keep playing the way we do.

"We know we've got goals in the team, clean sheets in the team and a lot of good players. It's just about keeping focused and doing the right things."
