Gylfi Sigurdsson insists he has no regrets about choosing to join Tottenham ahead of Liverpool despite the Reds’ title challenge this season.
Sigurdsson was close to moving to Anfield from German club Hoffenheim in the summer of 2012, where he would have linked up with Brendan Rodgers, who brought him to Swansea on loan during the 2011-12 campaign.
In the end, though, Sigurdsson opted to move to north London. Spurs have not made the strides they would have hoped for since he joined, and are likely to fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
But as he prepares for Spurs’ Premier League match at Anfield on Sunday, the 24-year-old remains confident he made the correct decision.
“People have asked me that, but at the time I was really happy to come to Tottenham, and I still am,” he said. “I’m really enjoying it. It’s a fantastic club and in the last couple of seasons we’ve shown the ambition to become better.
“Hopefully in the next couple of years, it will be really good. Because they didn’t qualify for Europe, Liverpool are playing one game a week and it’s benefited them quite a bit, because they’re fresh and ready to go in every game.”

Sigurdsson has a good chance of starting at Anfield after an excellent performance as a substitute in the 3-2 victory over Southampton, in which he scored the winner, helped turn the game for Spurs.
He added: “It’s normal to make a couple of changes and it keeps everyone on their toes. You always have to be ready for the next game.”
