Gianluigi Buffon revealed after Juventus' Champions League final defeat to Barcelona that he 'really' believed the Italians could triumph in Berlin.

Massimiliano Allegri's side lost the contest at the Olympiastadion 3-1 on Saturday evening as Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Luis Suarez and Neymar clinched the European Cup following Alvaro Morata's 55th-minute equaliser.

The former Real Madrid striker's goal brought Juve back into the contest, albeit for 14 minutes, but Buffon admitted after the loss he thought the Serie A giants were on course to causing an upset.

"I am a guy who always knows how to handle moments of great joy and disappointment with balance," the veteran goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.

"This is one of the disappointments sport gives you, but before that we shared many great moments of joy with our fans.

"It was a shame not to have the Final to really finish off this journey, but at one point I really did believe."
