Former Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has hinted he would be open to taking the vacant managerial position at Leicester but revealed he has yet to be contacted by the champions.

The Foxes sacked Claudio Ranieri last week less than a year after the Italian had led the club to the first top division title in their history.

Ranieri left amid claims of rancour in the dressing room and Leicester bounced back in style on Monday, beating Liverpool 3-1 to move two points clear of the relegation zone.

Assistant manager Craig Shakespeare took charge of Leicester for their win at the King Power and Hiddink, 70, praised the improvement he had got out of the title winners.

“I think Leicester has done very well by going with the assistant manager after Ranieri’s dismissal. They proved themselves against Liverpool. I have no had contact with Leicester,” he told De Telegraaf.

“I have so much love for football that I do not exclude it. I never go to a club for several years, but I think it’s great to be working with young people.”

Hiddink, who served as Chelsea’s head coach on a temporary basis in 2009 and between 2015 and 206, is understood to be on a shortlist for the Leicester vacancy with former Inter Milan and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini the favourite should the club’s Thai owners opt against Shakespeare.
