Fifa 17 player ratings: Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois named top London goalkeeper but is still no match for David De Gea

The 2015/16 season may not have been a stellar campaign for Chelsea, but Thiabut Courtois still did enough to earn one of the highest rankings of any goalkeeper in Fifa 17.

The Stamford Bridge No.1 has been awarded a rating of 89 out of a possible 99, with Arsenal's Petr Cech and Tottenham's Hugo Lloris both a point behind on 88 as developer EA Sports released their list of the game's top 20 keepers.

Cech departed Chelsea last summer after losing his starting XI role to Courtois - a keeper 11 years his junior - but the Belgian shot-stopper was part of a Blues side that conceded 53 goals in a disastrous defence of their Premier League title.

Cech, on the other hand, helped Arsenal - who shipped 36 - to finish second behind champions Leicester, with Lloris and Spurs a point behind having conceded one goal less than their north London rivals.

All three make the top 10, though there was also room for Crystal Palace's new No.1 Steve Mandanda in the top 20. The France keeper - back-up to Lloris at international level - has been awarded a respectable 85; a point better off than England's first-choice Joe Hart.

While Courtois is the third-best keeper in the game, he's no match for second-placed Manchester United No.1 David De Gea (90) or Bayern Munich and Germany giant Manuel Neuer, by far and away the top shot-stopper a rating of 92.

Meanwhile, Courtois today admitted he may not sign a contract extension at Chelsea because he wants to play in La Liga again.

The keeper spent three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid between 2011-14, and has less than three years left on his current Chelsea deal.

When asked by Spanish newspaper Marca about whether he's keen to return to Spain in the future, he said: “Yes, but not only for the club (Atletico), but how Madrid is and the whole country.

“When I left Spain it was clear that one day I would return there. I have a contract at Chelsea for three seasons. In 2018, when I enter the final year of the contract, we will assess whether to renew or leave."

Real Madrid have made enquiries for the Belgium international this summer and last, but were scared off by Chelsea's £73m asking price.

Fifa 17 will hit the stores in the UK on Thursday September 29, two days after its release in the US.
