FA won't punish Chelsea after 'murderers' chant during Hillsborough 'silence'

Chelsea will not be punished by the Football Association after their supporters disrespected the minute’s silence at Wembley to commemorate the Hillsborough disaster.

Standard Sport understands Liverpool fans are planning to bombard the FA with complaints over the behaviour of Chelsea supporters before yesterday’s FA Cup semi-final.

A section of Chelsea fans were heard to chant “murderers” during the organised tribute which took place before the kick off and referee Martin Atkinson was forced to bring it to a premature end.

The match took place on the 23rd anniversary of the tragic events at Hillsborough, where 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives during an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

But the FA say there are no rules in place to take action against a club if their supporters misbehave during a minute’s silence.

Chelsea released a statement immediately after the match admitting they were “extremely disappointed” and “embarrassed” by what took place.

The club also said they will work with the FA and Wembley to identify those responsible and punish them accordingly.
