Expert view: Is David Moyes the right manager for West Ham?

West Ham have moved to arrest their worrying start to the Premier League season by sacking Slaven Bilic and hiring David Moyes as their new manager.

The Hammers confirmed the 54-year-old former Everton, Manchester United and Sunderland manager as successor to Bilic on Tuesday morning after deciding to part ways with the Croatian coach.

Bilic had been expected to see out the season with the Hammers, but was dismissed on Monday by joint-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold in the wake of the 4-1 home defeat by Liverpool - a result which left the club in the relegation zone by the end of the weekend.

Bilic managed a near-35 per cent win rate in Premier League games with the Hammers - making him statistically their most successful manager in the competition - and it rose to 37.8 per cent across all competitions during his nearly two and a half years in charge.

Moyes, by contrast, has won 20 of his last 85 games in management with Sunderland and Real Sociedad - though Gold and Sullivan will be hoping his time at Preston, Everton and United is more representative.

But is Moyes the right man for the job? And will he be backed in the January transfer window?
