Tottenham defender Kyle Walker could cost England in Euro 2016 knock-out stages, warns Tony Cascarino

Kyle Walker's determination to 'bomb forward at every opportunity' could cost England in the knock-out stages of Euro 2016, according to Tony Cascarino.

The Spurs defender has started both of England's group games this summer and is widely regarded to have been one of the Three Lions' best performers in France.

Roy Hodgon's preferred 4-2-3-1 formations requires both full backs to provide width in attack and Walker has worked well alongside Adam Lallana on the front foot.

But Cascarino fears the Tottenham defender's gung-ho approach could be detrimental when the Three Lions encounter one of the competition's better teams.

"Gary Neville is there and should be saying to [Kyle] Walker 'take a leaf out of my book,'" Cascarino told the Times.

"He needs to get through to Walker, and to his expected replacement Nathaniel Clyne, that they can't go bombing forward at every opportunity and risk leaving England exposed."

England have conceded in both of their games thus far and Cascarino is adamant the likes of Walker will need their discipline if the nation is to succeed.

"If they play as they have I can't see England keeping a clean sheet.

"At some point, to go deep in this tournament, they are going to have to win a game 1-0 and I can't see them doing that.

"Walker has been fantastic going forward; he's a crucial outlet for the way England play.

"But he needs to be more disciplined against better teams. If you leave the back line exposed you're in trouble," Cascarino added.

Walker is expected to be one of several players rested for tonight's clash with Slovakia, which will decide whether Roy Hodgson's side finish top of Group B.

Securing top spot would see England secure a favourable draw against one of the four best third-place teams in the last 16.
