England finally win on penalties thanks to Arsenal pair Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Spot on: Aubameyang beats Ospina from 12 yards
Standard Sport18 May 2018

The penalty shootout is every England football fan's greatest fear.

The Three Lions have never won a game settled from 12 yards at a World Cup, and have the worst losing shootout record in the history of the competition.

Only Romania (1990, 1994) and Mexico (1986, 1994) have also lost every time they've reached a shootout at a World Cup, while Italy have matched England's three defeats but also won on penalties to clinch the trophy in 2006.

However, England's luck might be starting to turn thanks to the unlikely help of Arsenal duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who took on Betfair's penalty challenge.

With the Gunners stars hooked up to ear pieces, fans from England, Brazil, Germany and Spain went head-to-head instructing the players where to aim.

Petr Cech and David Ospina took turns in goal, also taking guidance from fans telling them which way to dive.
