Jose Mourinho has claimed that Eden Hazard suffered a 'serious injury' during Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to Leicester.

The Belgian winger went down under what appeared to be an innocuous challenge from Jamie Vardy on the half hour mark and received treatment on the pitch.

Hazard signalled that he needed to be substituted but then climbed back to his feet and made an effort to return to the action after a conversation with his manager.

But the PFA Player of the Year reneged on his decision moments after he return to the field off play and immediately trudged down the tunnel.

Pedro was brought on as his replacement and Mourinho is adamant the problem Hazard suffered was 'serious'.

"His first reaction was 'I can't continue', his second reaction was 'I want to try', but after his first step back on the pitch he said he couldn't. He's injured clearly.

"He made the decision to come off. So it must be a serious injury," the Portuguese tactician told Sky Sports.

Hazard was a leading performer during Chelsea's title triumph last season but is yet to find the net in 16 top-flight appearances this term.

Strikes from Vardy and Riyad Mahrez sealed victory for the Foxes and consigned Mourinho's men to their ninth defeat of the season.
