Eden Hazard jokes dad is in trouble over rejected Chelsea contract and Real Madrid comments

Eden Hazard has joked that his dad is in his bad books after claiming the Belgian had rejected a new contract at Chelsea in order to wait for a bid from Real Madrid.

Thierry Hazard made the suggestion last month and it sent Chelsea fans into a state of panic.

Real Madrid have been considering making an offer for the attacking midfielder for several seasons and will be looking to recruit some new Galacticos this summer after a disappointing La Liga campaign.

Hazard's current deal expires in 2020, but Chelsea are hoping to agree an extension worth a minimum £300,000-a-week before he leaves for the World Cup with Belgium in June.

Speaking about Hazard senior's comments, Eden said with a smile: "My dad says some bad things. [Is he in trouble?] Yeah. I talked with him, no worries.

"I'm focused with Chelsea. I've got two years contract left and I'm happy here. Like I said 10 times before, I want to finish this season and then we'll see. But I'm happy here."

Hazard looked back to his very best in the 4-0 win over Brighton on Saturday. He scored a fine brace and also completed 90 minutes for just the second time in his last 10 appearances.

Antonio Conte has been keen to look after his prize asset, who is key to the club's chances of winning any silverware this term.

Hazard suffered a fractured ankle last June, which caused him to miss the start of the season. It is another factor behind Conte's decision making.

When asked about Conte's tendency to substitute him a lot, Hazard replied: "You can ask the manager. The manager answered last week, so I don't need to talk about this.

"When I'm on the pitch I try to give my best. When I'm not on the pitch - on the bench - I want the team to do the best. That's it.

"Is it harder physically after missing pre-season? Yes, but I think it's normal when you miss two months of pre-season with an injury.

"I had a good start to the season after the injury and then it's not easy to stay on the top.

"But I try to work in training and when I'm on the pitch I try to give everything. Sometimes it happens like against Brighton when we play an amazing game, sometimes not. I just keep going, keep training hard and try to do my best."
