Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard are trying to convince Lyon star Nabil Fekir to join Chelsea this summer.

Fekir was hours away from joining Liverpool in June only for the Ligue 1 outfit to withdraw from negotiations, reportedly after the player had undergone a medical.

Chelsea have made just one outfield signing this summer, Jorginho arriving from Napoli, and Giroud says the fellow World Cup winner would be a great addition at Stamford Bridge.

"I spoke to him when we were together in the French national team, when his move to Liverpool fell through," Giroud told Foot Mercato.

"Then we discussed Chelsea, and I even think that Eden said a couple of words to him.

"We would obviously welcome him, he is a super player, but I don’t know if this is something that could happen as the window closes on Thursday."

Chelsea beat Lyon on Tuesday via a penalty shootout in their final pre-season friendly and, after the game, head coach Bruno Genesio opened the door for Fekir to leave the club this summer.

When asked if Fekir was staying at Lyon this season, Genesio told reporters: "It's too early to say. He wanted to leave at the end of last season, but came back to training [on Monday] and was happy.

"There may be opportunities that come up before the end of the window. For now, he is a Lyon player."
