David Moyes insists no West Ham players up for sale with new signings the priority

David Moyes says none of his West Ham players are up for sale in January as he looks to add to the squad and continue their trajectory away from the bottom three.

After surviving a tough festive period, the Hammers now head into a run against those around them in the Premier League table, keen to further distance themselves from the pack fighting the drop.

Moyes has made no secret of his desire to add to his squad, despite the future of Javier Hernandez and reports of a fee agreed with Crystal Palace for the sale of Diafra Sakho up for discussion.

“I don't want any of them to go,” Moyes told reporters. “We have got no players here that we want to leave, we need to add to our squad so ideally we strengthen. My intention is not to let anybody go.

“What I will say is that we have four or five strikers and obviously the competition is tough for all of them but I a happy with that and it would need to take an awful lot of money in this window to prise any of them away.

“My interest in balancing the squad is as much about getting players in areas where we are short rather than areas we are full in. I need to make sure we add to the squad. If someone comes in with an offer then we can’t stop those coming in but we can stop them in terms of not letting players go.”

A central midfielder is top priority in east London this month, with bids already snubbed for both Harry Arter and Joe Allen as Standard Sport reported this week. However, with a number of defensive injuries already this season, a new centre-half is not unthinkable.

While it could happen, Moyes - who confirmed that the club had seen offers rejected, but would not name the players - is hopeful of having defenders return from injury in the coming weeks.

“No, we've got Jose Fonte coming back, James Collins on the way back as well so we have got some central defenders, would we maybe want to make changes in the future? Possibly.

“But that'll wait just now, we are short in other areas where we are just short of numbers where we can't make changes, things we can alter, so if we can add to those areas we will do.”

The news for fans regarding those other areas, however, is not fantastic. Moyes added that while work is going on behind the scenes, they are no closer to an announcement.

“We are working on it, we have nobody lined up right now, nobody we can turn around and say it's definitely going to happen with.”
