David de Gea has spoken of his admiration for Barcelona’s Andreas Iniesta as Manchester look to rebuild under new manager Louis van Gaal.

United have long been on the lookout for a strong midfielder and have been linked with a deal for Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos for some time. Their former boss David Moyes also tried to tempt Cesc Fabregas back to the Premier League last summer.

Speaking to Movistar about United's prospective summer signings, De Gea said: "If I had a millions and millions I would buy Iniesta.

"He is one of the best players in the world. He has character, quality and goal. He has everything."

Van Gaal, who will lead the Netherlands during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, is expected to make several big signings as he looks to replace a number of high profile players who will leave Old Trafford this summer.

Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed he will move to Inter Milan, while Rio Ferdinand is also on the way out and Ryan Giggs has called time on his playing career to accompany Van Gaal as assistant manager in the Old Trafford dugout.
