Danny Rose has revealed how Mauricio Pochettino once pranked him by saying Tottenham were thinking of selling the defender - which left the England international "gutted".

Rose revealed the prank during an interview with Soccer AM, in which he said Pochettino called him into his office just after the left-back heard the news he was being called up to the England squad for the first time.

The 26-year-old said: "He called me in his office and he sat me down and said 'We've just received a bid from somebody and we are looking to sell you.'

"I was a bit gutted to be fair! And then after a while he told me he was joking.

"I tried to get my own back on him. He'd seen the news about China and that a club were interested in me. I told him it was true and he just said 'Yeah, OK then!'."

Rose also revealed how he considers himself the teacher's pet because he spends so much time in Pochettino's office, but admitted he shares a great relationship with the Argentine manager.

When asked why several of the Spurs players have previously labelled him "the gaffer's son", Rose said: "I'm in the gaffer's office quite a bit.

"He's normally telling me off! Over the last few years, I've created a great relationship with the manager and I speak to him quite a lot."
