Crystal Palace's Alan Pardew backs Slaven Bilic to turn things around at West Ham

Alan Pardew today backed Slaven Bilic to turn things around at West Ham after their nightmare start to the season.

Crystal Palace face the Hammers at Selhurst Park tomorrow with the club in the relegation zone.

Bilic has the support of co-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold but knows results need to improve fast.

West Ham have lost five of their opening seven Premier League games but Pardew believes it is only a matter of time before Bilic gets his former club out of trouble.

“I have no doubt he will get it right sooner rather than later,” said the Palace manager. “It is part of the managerial role we have that everything is centered on the results.

"Sometimes all the stuff that goes on around them makes it difficult to get those results. But he is experienced so will know how to deal with it.

“I do not consider him under pressure. He has just had two or three results that have not gone very well. These days people are so quick to jump on managers. All he can do is the best job he can.

“The manager is top class and so are the players. It is just a question of them getting a right result and kicking on from there.”

Pardew has sympathy for Bilic, who has had to deal with the backdrop of unrest at West Ham following their move from Upton Park to the Olympic Stadium.

“Moving into a new stadium is difficult,” he added. “You are taking away years and years of traditions. They will find a way and hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Meanwhile, Pardew has also praised former Palace player Gareth Soutgate, saying he is the right man to lead England.

He said: “Those two results [against Malta and Slovenia] were decent. God willing, they go on from the next game.”
