Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson: Saying Tottenham's Harry Kane is best in world is 'a pointless exercise'

Roy Hodgson has said calling Harry Kane the best football player in the world is a 'pointless exercise'.

Tottenham striker Kane is in exceptional form, netting eight goals in 9 games so far this season.

He had a phenomenal goalscoring streak last season scoring 29 goals in 30 appearances.

But Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson said calling top flight players like Kane the best in the world is a pointless exercise.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of his club's Premier League clash against the north London club on Sunday, the Eagles boss said: "Harry Kane is not Ronaldo, Ronaldo is not Messi, Messi is not Higuain. You can't compare players.

"He plays like a centre-forward. A very, very good forward, but start saying he is no1 in the world, no.2 in the world, no.6 in the world is a pointless exercise."

Palace's chances of remaining in the Premier League is slim after they torpedoed to the bottom of the table earning only four points from ten games, leaving Hodgson's men with the six-worst record ever seen in this stage of the campaign.

But following on from a Chelsea victory and a dramatic draw with West Ham last week, the Eagles boss remains positive ahead of Super Sunday’s battle.

With Harry Kane set to start alongside Dele Alli after a phenomenal 3-1 win over Real over the weekend, Hodgson sees the potential in the squad, disagreeing with Pep Guardiola's 'Harry Kane team' quip.

"I don't think they are a one man team, I don't think Pep Guardiola does either," he added.

"Anyone that admires good football can appreciate the way they play."

Tottenham have won four consecutive Premier League games against Palace and the Eagles have failed to score in any of their last four league visits to Spurs since a 1-1 draw in December 2004.
