Clinton Njie is a good signing for Tottenham, says Mousa Dembele

Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele has welcomed Clinton Njie's arrival at White Hart Lane as he has heard 'many positive things' about the 22-year-old's ability.

The Cameroon international completed his move from Lyon last week in a deal reported to be worth up to £12m, but did not arrive in time to feature in Spurs' disappointing 2-2 draw against Stoke City.

Njie scored seven goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season and Dembele is confident that the forward can be a success in the Premier League and, crucially, provide healthy competition for a place in Mauricio Pochettino's side.

“I have heard many positive things. Hugo [Lloris] has heard the same from back home. It’s a good move. It will mean more competition for places,” Dembele said.

Njie, who can play in a variety of roles, is now one of two strikers in Tottenham's first-team squad given that Roberto Soldado has joined Villarreal and Emmanuel Adebayor does not feature in the north London club's plans.

Pochettino deployed Nacer Chadli up front after he withdrew Harry Kane in the encounter with Mark Hughes' side and the Argentine coach has admitted that wants to add another centre forward to his ranks before the transfer window closes, despite Njie's arrival.
