Maurizio Sarri astonishingly stormed off during Chelsea's training session ahead of the Europa League final following a row between two members of his squad.

The Blues were making their final preparations in their last warm-up before the showpiece event against Arsenal at the Olympic Stadium in Baku on Wednesday.

But as the players took part in a drill in training, Gonzalo Higuain and David Luiz exchanged words following a late challenge by the former.

Footage from the session shows Luiz making his unhappiness known about the severity of the challenge from his team-mate just one day before the final.

The Brazilian then appeared to refuse Higuain's attempt to apologise, leading Sarri to turn away and head for the dressing room.

As he walked off the pitch, the Chelsea coach launched his hat into the air before gesticulating furiously and continued to kick it in frustration.

The Italian eventually disappeared down the tunnel, leaving the Chelsea players baffled on the pitch, while Luiz later walked off before returning a few minutes later.

It's not the first time that Sarri has lost his cool with his players. The 60-year-old was left seething when goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to come off in the EFL Cup final.

Chelsea responded to the incident in a statement, insisting Sarri was not angry about the incident between his players.

A spokesperson said: “Maurizio’s frustration displayed at the end of training was not related to any of his players, but was due to not being able to practise set-plays in the final 15 minutes of the hour-long training session as it remained open to media.”
