Chelsea transfer news: Diego Costa's Stamford Bridge future thrown into fresh doubt amid Atletico Madrid talk

Chelsea face a fight to keep striker Diego Costa after renewed reports emerged in Spain that he wants to move back to Atletico Madrid.

Spanish newspaper AS claimed this morning that the 27-year-old has informed the Blues’ hierarchy of his desire to return to his former club after two years in London.

Chelsea were thought to be confident of keeping Costa despite ongoing rumours about his unhappiness in England, in part stemming from what he perceives as a persecution of his aggressive playing style. Reports in Spain suggest the Blues will not consider allowing Costa to leave until they have secured a replacement in addition to Michy Batshuayi, who has already signed from Marseille.

Costa will be part of the group which travels to Austria this weekend on the first leg of Chelsea’s pre-season tour, a trip which will come too soon for N’Golo Kante as the club continues to negotiate his transfer from Leicester City.

Kante has been urged by Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri to make a decision on a move costing in the region of £29million.
