Chelsea XI vs Man City: Mount injury - Starting lineup and confirmed team news for game today

Nizaar Kinsella5 January 2023

Mason Mount misses Chelsea’s Premier League match with Manchester City tonight due to a fresh injury.

The Blues have suffered an injury crisis of late with the midfielder’s issue leading to Omari Hutchinson getting a chance on the bench as Hakim Ziyech makes the XI.

Although Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to training but Blues boss Graham Potter has not brought him in for the high-profile Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

It leaves the Blues without Reece James, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Wesley Fofana, Armando Broja and Edouard Mendy.

James and Chilwell are expected to be out for at least three more weeks but Fofana and Mendy could be back as soon as next week.

After suffering an injury to his knee in a friendly match in mid-December, Broja will likely be out for the season while Kante is due back from hamstring surgery in late February.

Midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka returned from a hamstring injury to make a substitute appearance against Nottingham Forest and again makes tonight’s bench, while new £8.6million signing David Datro Fofana will not be thrown straight into first-team action.

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly, Cucurella; Zakara, Kovacic; Pulisic, Ziyech, Sterling, Havertz.

Subs: Bettinelli, Chalobah, Humphreys, Hall, Chukwuemeka, Gallagher, Jorginho, Hutchinson, Aubameyang.
