Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has joined Championship club Fulham on a season-long loan deal.

But Kalas will now start a new chapter of his career at Craven Cottage after admitting the west London club's active pursuit of his signature swayed his decision to make the short move across the capital.

Fulham narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier of English football last season, after finishing in 20th place, but Kalas is adamant Slavisa Jokanovic's side will be aiming to secure a top-six finish in the forthcoming campaign.

"Promotion or at least the play offs," Kalas told Fulham's official website when asked what he hoped to achieve with the west Londoners.

"When I was at Middlesbrough nobody expected us in the play-offs and we ended up in the play offs.

"Nobody probably expects Fulham to be that high but, why not? After two bad seasons there should come a better one!" said the Czech Republic centre back.

Kalas joined Chelsea in 2011 but has struggled for regular game time at Stamford Bridge since making his debut during the tail end of the 2013/14 season.

New Blues manager Antonio Conte took charge of his first training session at Cobham this afternoon but Kalas is evidently not part of the Italian's immediate plans as he attempts to reclaim Chelsea's place in the top four.
