Shock move: Torres could be heading to the Bundesliga

Schalke are preparing a shock January move for £50million Chelsea flop Fernando Torres.

The German club, now managed by former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo, are ready to make a cash offer to take the 30-year-old Spain international striker to the Bundesliga.

Torres scored just 20 goals in 110 Premier League games following his British transfer record move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011 and was sent to AC Milan on a two-year loan deal in the last transfer window. His contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2016.

The Spaniard has scored just two goals in eight starts since his move to the San Siro and it is unlikely the forward will land a permanent deal with the Serie A club if he continues in the same vein.

Torres famously scored a Champions League semi-final goal at the Nou Camp as now Schalke boss Di Matteo led Chelsea to European glory, and the Italian’s plans for a reunion would offer the Blues a chance to recoup some of the British record fee they parted with in 2011.
