Maurizio Sarri has yet to ask the Chelsea hierarchy to sign any players in January and suggested he won't do so.

The Chelsea manager has made a fine start to his spell in charge having gone 15 games unbeaten in all competitions.

Sarri has used 23 players so far and competition for a place in the first team is intense.

There have been suggestions that another centre forward and central defender is on Sarri's agenda.

However, when pressed if he had talked to the Chelsea board about signing players in the new year, the Italian said: "No, I didn’t ask anything about it to my club because at the moment I think we can stay with these players and be competitive.

"Maybe not for the top but we have to try to arrive close to the top.

"It is too easy to go into the market for every problem. I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve.

"It is my work, I think. For the market, there is the club. I can say to the club my opinion about what I think I need but my job is to try to improve my players."

Meanwhile, Sarri has confirmed that Olivier Giroud has not recovered from a leg injury in time to face Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The France striker is expected to return to play at Bate Borisov in the Europa League on Thursday night. It means that Alvaro Morata will make his sixth start in the last eight matches against Roy Hodgson's side.
